By nature, I’m a private person. I have loads of opinions and strong feelings, but normally, I only disclose them one-on-one or in small groups.

So, when I decided to pursue the dream of writing fiction, and all the experts said I needed to blog at least once a week and work on building a platform, I felt like I’d swallowed a bucket of worms. Bleh!

Do people even care about my opinions? Won’t I just be making myself a target for rolled eyes and belittling comments?

Yes. I am. I realize that.

At worst people will dislike me. Or maybe they’ll just tune me out or unfollow me.

But just maybe, I can make a small difference in someone’s life. Open a new area of thought, or shed some light on an old one. Maybe I can make someone laugh, or reminisce, or dream. That’s what I’m going for.

I’m still nervous. I’m still uncomfortable. But I’m going to give it a go. I’m not the most talented writer. But the talent I’ve been given, I will use. As Henry Van Dyke said, “The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.”

What about you? What talent do you have? Are you using it? Or is it still gathering dust on the shelf? We need more beautiful songs in this world.
